The UMD-PRC is committed to addressing gaps in understanding of LGBTQ+ mental health care and improving outcomes for LGBTQ+ persons. The SGDLC was developed with the intention of introducing healthcare providers to basic concepts related to LGBTQ+ mental health and wellness, preparing them to competently serve LGBTQ+ clients. The SGDLC is intended to be delivered to behavioral healthcare providers including mental health professionals and drug and alcohol counselors and medical professionals such as physicians, medical assistants, and nurses.

This Beginning Assessment will be used to assess and evaluate the knowledge, skills and behaviors of the participants so they are able to have a starting sense of where they need to improve to build an affirmative practice.  This assessment will take appromiately 15-20 minutes to complete, so please give yourself enough time to intently and thoughtfully complete your answers.  Please keep the results at the end, as they will be referred to throughout the program.

This information will also be collected at the for the use of research by the University of Maryland School of Public Health Prevention Research Team. You will be asked to complete a consent form at the beginning of the assessment. You are welcomed to opt out if you do not want your information used within the study (minuts demographic information). If you choose to not participate, this does not affect your experience within the certificate program as a whole.

If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Shanéa Thomas, LICSW at lgbtq-training@umd.edu.
